Review of All the Ugly and Wonderful Things by Bryn Greenwood

Updated: Aug 21, 2020

Wow. The positive elements of the story don't come easily, and this makes them even more powerful.

This is an unlikely love story with a meth lab backdrop and imperfect players who find happiness and beauty in an improbable bond.

I was fascinated by Bryn Greenwood's All the Ugly and Wonderful Things. The book digs down deeply into the disturbing and ugly, and the wonderful and beautiful elements of the story don't come easily. The characters of Wavy and Kellen (an ex-con with a heart of gold!) will captivate you.

Greenwood's skillful unfolding of the often brutal story, the characters' many layers, and the varied truths of each drastically different perspective are so powerful, I think this book is going to haunt me for a long while.

What did you think?

Greenwood is also the author of The Reckless Oath We Made, which I also loved. I'm in for anything she writes at this point.
